Analysis of the Causes of Color Difference in Spot Color Ink Printing

2024-03-11

To enhance the overall effect of packaging, many customers design a large area of spot color in the packaging design. If not well controlled during the printing process, it will greatly reduce the grade of the product, thereby affecting the competitiveness of the product in the market. Therefore, strict requirements should be placed on both the quality control of raw materials and the technical quality of operators during printing.

Inconsistency in hue for each batch or the same batch

(1) Detailed records should be made of the scraper angle and ink ratio during the first proofing.

(2) Before printing, control measures should be taken. Since spot color inks are generally self-prepared, the deviation and ratio of the ink used must be ensured to be accurate. The ink dish, ink stirring stick, and ink pump should be cleaned. The remaining ink from the previous use should be added in an appropriate amount to the new ink. The scraper angle record and ink viscosity should be adjusted according to the record.

(3) It is essential to control the viscosity of the ink during printing. It is recommended to increase the frequency of manual measurements or use an automatic viscosity tracking and adjustment device.

Uneven ink transfer

(1) When mixing colors, the variety of inks should be minimized. If two colors can achieve the desired color, there is no need to use three colors. Inks from different manufacturers should not be mixed. After mixing, the ink should be thoroughly stirred and evenly mixed, and an appropriate amount of butanone should be added for dissolution. When adding the solution, it should be added slowly and stirred evenly to prevent the dissolution from deteriorating due to the impact of the same solution, destroying the ink structure, and causing poor transfer.

(2) Reduce the scraper angle and pressure (more applicable to transition spot colors).

(3) Watermark: Increase the ink viscosity. Because the spot color plate is deeply.
